Member Spotlight: John Gerlach, Owner, Mr. Handyman

John was born and raised in rural Iowa. He studied Mechanical Engineering at University of Iowa and later received an MBA from the University of Kentucky.
His first job was working on his dad’s dairy farm where they also raised crops and hogs. John came to Houston in 1992 to work for Weatherford International as a design engineer. He worked as a mechanical engineer in various roles from design to project and operations management primarily in the oil and gas field.
John purchased Mr. Handyman to prove to himself that he could run his own business and set himself up for retirement. He joined the Chamber when he purchased his Mr. Handman franchise to market his business and have social contacts.
John’s hobbies include snow skiing, playing pickleball and following all University of Iowa Hawkeye sports. He is also a season ticket holder for the Houston, Texas.
