About Council Member Abbie Kamin
Council Member Kamin is a civil rights attorney and 4th-generation Houstonian. Her great-grandparents home
was right in the heart of the Heights on Harvard St.. She has led efforts to create the city’s first-ever prenatal wellness and paid parental leave program, as well as establishing the Houston Women’s Commission. She has secured millions of dollars for safer streets, sidewalks, and improved drainage, prioritizing infrastructure that keeps residents safe and neighborhoods connected.
Council Member Kamin has spearheaded programs to integrate resiliency and green building practices into citywide development and programs to tackle critical issues like domestic violence and gun violence. She currently serves as Chair of the Labor Committee and Vice-Chair of Houston’s Resiliency Committee. Previously, Council Member Kamin chaired the Public Safety & Homeland Security Committee.
At the national level, she is now Vice-Chair of the Energy, Environment, and Natural Resources Federal Advocacy Committee for the National League of Cities.
