bold expressionism
Thinking Boldly Out of the Box
Yep, that's me. In my early years my parents gave sketchbooks with blank pages to me and my brother during our family long road trips. We would draw in these sketchbooks using our imagination. We were never given coloring books. These pages were filled with cartoon characters and other images from our imagination. I thank my parents for that. Drawing and writing in a sketchbook became a way of life for me especially when I travel. They are my diaries.
I love to be immersed in all the arts from drawing, printmaking, painting to ceramics and creating jewelry.
When I am working with a piece of paper, canvas, etc. I want to fill the area with "marks" that excite me. I like to be bold when creating my "marks" using charcoal and mixed media in describing a human form or a landscape. At first I work very fast using my whole body to create a rhythm. I look for relationships of my shapes to the surrounding shapes so that the background shapes and spaces are just as important. Thereafter I may add layers of mixed media to enhance the expressionistic tone of my work.
I am fortunate to have this opportunity to create. I am also more fortunate to have a wonderful daughter and son...they mean the world to me. I also am lucky to have a great bother who has helped me in this adventure! I also have a wonderful husband who is my "stabilizer", if that can ever be done!
I love to run, work out in the gym, swim, bike or just sit in the sun with my sketchbook and a glass of vino.
